Ordered delivery a few sushi rolls and omakase sashimi combo. Wait time about one hour. Definitely missed the decoration of Japanese food, but fish are edible. Costs are inflated for the delivery as we know. White Akita roll is really good. Recommended. Will try the in house next time.

Great little hole in the wall sushi spot! We over ordered-we shared the Akita beauty combo which is chef's choice nigiri and your choice of a special roll. We got the rainbow roll. It came with soup and salad and for a few bucks extra they added a soup and salad since my husband and I were sharing. We also got the mix tempura which came out piping hot and was really good-especially the shrimp. Service was fast even though they were busy. Will return.

We were traveling and found Akita in Escondido. On entrance, it looked like the typical family style restaurant, but that's where the comparisons stop. The quality and preparation I look for was there and it was reflected in the taste. We had the caterpillar roll, Tonkatsu Ramen, cucumber salad and agedashi tofu. Each takes a certain amount of technique, whether it's actually making a smaller, tighter roll on their sushi, the level of acidity in the cucumber salad or the fried consistency for the agedashi tofu. Akita hit the spot. Service was polite and attentive. Overall, I'd award an extra half star for the overall experience. It's a place I'd like to visit again.

A few months ago... I read about Akita from a Facebook recommendation. We had a belated Christmas get-together with our friend who's going through chemo treatments & cannot leave the house but was hankering for sushi... It was a 45 min drive to Escondido from O'side but we thought it was worth the drive. Wowwee!!! Everything was amazing!!! We got Akita beauty combo, dragon roll, jumbo scallop nigiri, fresh wasabi (never had it and loved it!), spicy tuna roll, Escondido roll, 3 salmon skin rolls (the best we've ever had-very well seasoned and still crunchy after a long car ride home!) & spicy garlic edamame (soooo much flavor and enough garlic to keep the vampires at bay for a week! Yum!). Everything was so delicious an hour later when we got home, we can't wait to eat on-site next time so we can see how amazing everything tastes when eaten right away. Hannah, the lady who took our order over the phone, was super kind & helped us finalize our amazing meal for 3. Didn't give Atmosphere a rating because it was takeout.

"Unassuming sushi haven" is totally correct. We were in the area for an errand and were pleasantly surprised by this place when we stopped for a quick bite. The sashimi salad was very fresh. The fish was yummy, the avocado was beautifully ripe and unblemished. The tomatoes were flavourless tho. The dressing was yummy. The Escondido roll was very delicious, the only thing I'd change is a bit less sauce on it. The sauce is very tasty but there was too much of it. Service was ok. Not bad, not above average. If I were in the area I'd go back.

I have been in Escondido for over 20 years and have never tried this incredible jewel of a restaurant. If you know me, you know how much I love basically any Asian food. Akita is my absolute new go to for japanese cuisine! The seafood was fresh, sauces tasty and presentation was on point. I will be back here over and over to try out the other menu items! Service was right on point and they made me feel like I was a regular like norm from cheers. The atmosphere was similar to a diner on the interior but had a cute traditional seating area for a larger group in the back that would be fun to try! Give this hidden sushi spot a try and it will be your new favorite!

Came here an hour before closing on NYE after coming back from out of town. They told us that we basically had 10 mins til last call since they were closing early so we put in our order quickly. It's a little hole in the wall place that's been around for a long while, heard they had a few owner transfer but I am guessing they have a lot of local regulars. I've been here before but it's been a few years since I've been back. I ordered the Toro don special and also yellowtail sashimi to go with my otoro bowl. There was a lot of rice in the bowl but the fish was so fresh. Now I am not sure the portion I got was because they were closing or this is their usual but it's worth it for the price. And my fresh yellowtail sashimi was fresh and thiccc !! My husband got the Escondido and Felicita roll, which he enjoyed. Good rolls but had a bit too much sauce for me. He says this is the new go to. They have some good and fresh premium items for being a "basic" sushi restaurant.
